Singing Lessons || Rachel & Mia

Rachel tapped her fingers lightly on the ebony piano. She’s texted Mia earlier to double check the arrangements, yet still she felt the twinge of nervousness; the uncertainty of herself. She’s been a flustered chaos in Mia’s room, so overwhelmed by the girl’s presence. She needed to be calmer, more collected, more Rachel Berry.

Yet her heartbeat still came in erratic and unsteady succession, anticipation of the girl sending her stomach into a flurry of twisted happiness and anxiety. She breathed out, a long, liberating exhalation of her emotions. She could do this.

Rachel may have before argued that singing and dancing were similar activities, but ruminating on it now she realised that no, dancing was certainly more… suggestive than singing. Rachel puffed out her cheeks. God, she was hopeless, even if she was only thinking about it.

She shuffled through the sheet music in front of her. It was a singing lesson. She was in her element. She was spending time with Mia. It would be fine. It would be fun.

Rachel let herself smile then. It would be fun. She had grown steadily but increasingly fond of the girl, and the prospect of her company was endearing, if not a little frightening. Rachel licked her lips, pushing the hair already behind her ears behind her ears again.

Her eyes flickered through the lyrics, the songs, the endless melodies she had memorised and perfected, and she would be able to recount the joy she felt from singing to the girl she was so willing to help. Her stomach fluttered again. Rachel Berry had never felt so lucky.
